Week four -“The things that are most important to me”

Figure 1: Pope Francis sends message about “Being Happy”

Today I interviewed my parents – Annie and Patrick. I asked them what were the things that would be most important to them?

“Recently, I found the most important thing to me might be happiness,” Annie said.

She also mentions that good health is vital as well. She believes that bad mood will worsen human health. Some sicknesses will attack people when they are unhappy. If people can live more happily, they will be more healthy.

Last month, she was feeling upset, but she was recovered when she read the article written by Pope Francis. His article guider people the way to stay happy.

“You may have defects, be anxious and sometimes live irritated, but do not forget that your life is the greatest enterprise in the world. Only you can prevent it from going into decadence. There are many that need you, admire you and love you.
Being happy means allowing the free, happy and simple child inside each of us to live; having a maturity to say, “I was wrong”; having the audacity to say, “forgive me”. It is to have sensitivity in expressing, “I need you”; to have the ability to saying, “I love you”.
So that your life becomes a garden full of opportunities for being happy… In your spring-time, may you become a lover of joy. In your winter, may you become a friend of wisdom.
Never give up… Never give up on the people you love. Never give up from being happy because life is an incredible show. And you are a special human being!”
– Pope Francis

“Good Health is an essential thing for me, it is also important for me to be an energetic person,” Patrick said. “If you have a healthy body, you can handle everything by yourself as needed. You can also go everywhere you want. If a person does not have good health, he will have problem to handle something he might wish to do. Also he will be upset due to his unhealthy condition.”

He suggested that people can do more exercises such as walking, swimming and eat healthily. e.g. no junk food, less sodium, less sugar and drink more water.

Conclusion, These interviews reflect to me how to do the preparation work prior to arranging an interview, how to mark down the main points and how to record the conversations.

These interviews also assist me to improve not so stiff to talk with unfamiliar people or stranger. In future, I can try to interview unfamiliar people or stranger by using the similar and relaxing way as I chatted with my parents.

2. Technical: Complete Quiz 4 – Reporting Speech

This week I learned the direct quote and indirect report skills from chapter seven. I found the contents in report speech is really useful for reporting of interview.

Did you find the questions difficult?

The questions are not difficult, I could reach full marks at the second attempt.

Did you have any problems in specific areas?

Before reading this chapter, I had a problem with the punctuation of direct quote such as a complete sentence need to introduce by a colon.
